THE TANGLED GARDEN

In the garden behind my house
I can pretend to be alone
In sweet golden solitude;
My flowers are perfect company.

I sleep under a blanket of woven clover,
Rest my head on a daffodil pillow,
Velvet poppies adorn my hair,
A yellow sunflower showers me in the morning,
And invisible crickets sing me to sleep.

In the garden behind my house
I can pretend to be alone
In sweet golden solitude;
My flowers are perfect company.

Dawn arrives with soft amber sunbeams,
Lighting rainbows in my tangled garden;
I sip wild cherry nectar, ambrosia of heaven,
Wild bluebells and violets invite me to stay…
But I’ll return another day

To the garden behind my house
Where I can pretend to be alone
In sweet golden solitude;
My flowers are perfect company.

When I first saw this painting I didn’t even notice the house in the background because the colours of the flowers captured my attention immediately. I loved the vibrant flowers, especially the sunflowers, which really look as if they are in the shape of a shower.
